Hello, Presenters!

We've recorded
a short Elluminate video tutorial (or download a .mp4 version here: ) so that you have a sense of how the Elluminate environment works. You may want to watch it a couple of times if you are nervous (it's short), but don't worry--you're going to be in good hands during your actual session.

Kim Caise will be moderating all NECC Unplugged sessions, and she is also holding some open "office hours" if you want individual tutoring to prepare. She'll be in the Elluminate room for 30 minutes for anyone who wants to come in. The times for that are: Thurs (6/25) @ 8pm EDT, Friday (6/26) @ 4pm EDT, or Sunday (6/28) @ 5pm EDT, all in Kim's Classroom 2.0 LIVE Elluminate room . If you can't make any of those times, feel free to log into the live rooms at

If you have a presentation deck you would like to upload or have uploaded to go in the whiteboard for the session, please send it to Kim at the email address above! If it is Open Document Format (.odp), you will need to export to .ppt for Kim to upload.

Some additional notes below.



Please ensure your computer is equipped with a microphone and speakers, so we can use the Voice over IP functionality built into Elluminate Live!. Elluminate Live! is a Java application, so there may be a download to your system the first time you use Elluminate Live!. We strongly recommend configuring your system at least 60 minutes before your scheduled session. To configure your system please visit the "First Time Users" section on Elluminate's Support Page.   • A headset/mic combination works best for your voice participation, although I use a stand-alone mic to speak and earbuds for listening. If you need to listen through your computer speakers, just be aware that there will be an echoing problem if you don't turn off your mic when you're not speaking (there's no echo-cancellation in this environment and your speaker sound goes right back into your mic). If you are planning on using a webcam to broadcast yourself by video, we'll either test that together in advance or configure it just before the session starts.
  • When you go to the URL for your session, you web browser may automatically open the Java file that starts the session. If it does not, it's downloaded it and you'll need to open it. If it's not readily apparent (which it is for most browsers), look for the play.jnlp or meeting.jnlp file in your standard download folder.
  • Once we are in the session, and you have been granted moderator privileges, do be aware that you have some "powers" that you have to be careful with! There are some things you can do which will impact all the other users; for example, if a web tour is up and you close it down, it will close it down for all participants (please don't do this during the evaluation survey!) You also have to be careful not to lock the room so no new guests can come in! I won't even tell you where to go to do this just to be safe, but it would be obvious to you--just remember that it's best not to play around too much if you aren't sure what you're doing as a moderator. :)
